NOTE: On Monday’s pool play
games, the team listed second is the HOME team.
On Tuesday’s pool play games, a coin toss will determine the HOME team.
On Wednesday’s games, the higher seed is the HOME team. On Thursday’s medal
round games, a coin toss will determine the HOME team.
Baseball
games will be governed by NFHS 2005 rules. Umpires are
college level and certified in NFHS code.
Pool-Play: Extra innings may be played
to break a tie. However, in Pool Play, a 2.5-hr time limit will be instituted
Mercy rules are enforced (20/3, 15/4, 10/5).
Pool-play will take place on Monday, May 23rd,
and Tuesday, May 24th. Each baseball
team will play two pool-play games on Monday and one game on Tuesday. After pool-play, the top four teams (i.e.,
the top two (2) teams from Pool A and the top two (2) teams from Pool B will advance
to the Semi-final games that will be played on Wednesday. The bottom four teams (two per each pool)
will be eliminated from the tournament.
Semi-final teams will be seeded per in their own pool: A1 and A2 and B1
and B2.
A = Pool A
B = Pool B
1 = 1st place after pool-play
2 = 2nd place after pool-play
Semi-finals: All
games are played to completion with no time limits. Mercy rules are enforced.
Baseball semi-final games will be played on Wednesday,
May 25th. A2 at B1 will play
first in semi-final game #1 on Wednesday followed by the B2 at A1 semi-final
game #2. Winners of each Semi-final game
will advance to the Championship game on Thursday, and the losers of each
Semi-final game will play in the
Medal Round: All games are played to
completion with no time limits. Mercy rules are enforced.
The purpose of the Medal round is to determine
overall placement of the top four teams in the World Series. The two losing teams of the Wednesday
Semi-final games will play in the 3rd place game (11:00 a.m.
Thursday). The two winning teams of the
Wednesday Semi-final games will play in the Championship game at 1:30 p.m. on
Thursday. An Awards Ceremony will
immediately follow the Championship Game.
FIELD MANAGERS:
HWSA
Field Managers will be present on the field during every game. They may be identified by a tri-colored HWSA
logo polo shirt. They will also be
wearing a nametag to identify themselves by.
Please respect these men as they will serve as the final HWSA authority
while on the field. Your cooperation and
support of the 2005 Field Managers (Jim Kill, Tim Day, Tom Griffin, and Dave
Irwin) is greatly appreciated. We expect full support of these men as they
handle disputes/protests, ensure that the game(s) are played according to the
correct rules and schedule of game times, and serve to maintain a
smooth-running World Series that honors the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ!
The
Field Managers have the authority to adapt game schedules, implement
tie-breaker rules, etc. if necessary due to weather limitations or other
circumstances that conflict with the original “plan”. Field Managers will communicate special rules
and/or procedures to the Umpires prior to each game start. Again, full cooperation and support of
decisions made by Field Managers is expected.
At
the start of each game, the Field Managers will make sure that each team has a
scorekeeper and will also ask if there is a person in the stands that would be
willing to announce the game. Field
Managers will also notify the scorekeeper of each team if they are Home or
Visitor. If you have been designated as
a scorekeeper and/or have the desire to serve as a game announcer, please
present yourself to the Field Manager prior to the start of the game.
TIE-BREAKERS
In an effort to determine a
clear winner of each game and avoid recording a tie after seven innings of
play, the following guidelines have been set in place.
Pool-Play
Games may go into extra innings up to 2 ½ hours. If the game is still tied at this point, the
Pool-Play Game is declared a tie. Semi-final and Medal Round games are played
to completion. Mercy rules are enforced for all games.
After
pool-play to determine the seedings, 2-way ties will
be broken by the head-to-head record of the tied teams. Three-way ties will be broken based on the
comparison of the 1) runs allowed per inning of each tied team, followed by the
number of 2) runs scored per inning.
RAIN DELAYS:
In the event of any rain delays, the
World Series will proceed as follows:
Plan #1 - Games will be shifted to
include playing on Friday.
Plan #2 -
If that is not sufficient, remaining games in the tournament will be reduced
to five-inning games. Hopefully, the
Play-off,
Please note that
schedule changes will be based on the good of the tournament as a whole, not an
individual team.
AWARDS
ALL-TOURNAMENT PLAYERS (ATPs):
(1) Players and Coaches will cast a vote to determine their own team’s 2005
Each
player will receive one ballot
to make his ATP selections, and PLAYERS
CANNOT VOTE FOR THEMSELVES. If
player/coach selections are very close, then the following point system may be
used to help determine team ATPs.
(1)
Players/Coaches should list their selections in the following way—first choice,
second choice, third choice, and fourth choice.
If votes are close, the Field Manager will award points to players in
the following way:
1) First choice = 4 points
2) Second choice = 3 points
3) Third choice = 2 points
4) Fourth choice = 1 point
(2)
The number of ATPs per team will be determined by
each team’s overall placement in the World Series. Below is a breakdown of the number of ATP
Awards that will be given per placement.
1) Teams in
Championship Game = 4 ATPs each
2) 3rd
place team = 3 ATPs
3) 4th
place team = 2 ATPs
4) 5th
through 8th place teams = 1 ATP each
(3) The determination of ATPs will be conducted by a
three-way system that is based on player, coach, and Field Manager votes.
Player votes = 1 point each
Coaches’ votes = 2 points each
Field
Managers will total each team’s votes at the end of each team’s final game. If there are any tie decisions, the Field
Managers will cast the final selection votes for the team.
